And because every part of the plant is edible, it’s a go to for garnishing charcuterie boards around here. Gems come in tangerine, orange and lemon colors. Unlike their larger cousins, Gems are NOT cut and come again. They are a one hit wonder that I harvest right down to the ground when they’re ready.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Blog - Principles of Floral Design: Negative Space - Make it stand out</image:title>
      <image:caption>This little arrangement of anemones and peonies forms a round mass that mimics the shape of the peony blooms. It doesn’t use any open space. Forming a round pompon (just like a peony) was the whole point of this design. You can see that massing the flowers together doesn’t create much of a sense of movement and the arrangement appears really solid. It also reads as a single form so the detail of individual blooms don’t stand out.</image:caption>
    </image:image>

      <image:title>Blog - Principles of Floral Design: Negative Space - Make it stand out</image:title>
      <image:caption>This arrangement leaves a lot of open space between wispy stems to create a lot of movement and a delicacy. If every open space was packed with flowers, you’d lose all of the elements that make this design work. The spaces in between also call attention to the detail of each individual bloom. See how you can zoom in and appreciate the uniqueness of each one. Whereas the arrangement above reads like one single shape and you are not inclined to appreciate each flower.</image:caption>

      <image:title>About - Melliflora is the floral production arm of Mellifera Farm</image:title>
      <image:caption>Starting flowers on the farm was a dream come true for me as a way to return to my roots in agriculture, art, design and creative entrepreneurship. It is a place to make art with my friends and to pursue the simple goal of making life’s most important moments special and joyful with flowers. We specialize in cultivating heirloom, old fashioned, and uncommon varieties prized for their beauty and fragrance. Look below for all the ways you can be part of the flower magic.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Workshops - Flower HappyHour - on hold until the 2026 season FHH was so much fun last year that we can’t wait to do it again. But, I’m adjusting to the new schedule and scope on the farm without our regular help. FHH feels like too much this year. I’m not giving up on it, but I’m putting it on pause.</image:title>
      <image:caption>When: On hold until the 2026 season Where: Mellifera Farm in Troy ID What is it? Imagine coming to the flower field with your friends, after a hard day’s work, where you’re greeted with a glass of local wine as you enter the farm. You’ll have a chance to wander the field, learn how to make a hand tied bouquet, make an arrangement yourself to take home, sample wine, have some delicious snacks and a relaxing evening surrounded by beauty and great people. Our friends at Rivaura Winery will join us to pour some of their award winning best. Non-Alcoholic options will also be available. Details Tickets are $75 per person. What to wear Mellifera is a working farm. You will be walking around the the two acre space where the flowers are grown. The ground is uneven and there may be tripping hazards. So, dress appropriately for such conditions and wear sturdy shoes that allow you to walk with comfort over open ground. Tickets are non-refundable, but they are transferrable. If you cannot make it, please let us know who will be coming in your place and how to reach them. In case of severe weather, Flower Happy Hour may be canceled or rescheduled. <image:caption>Reserve your lamb If you’ve never had Icelandic lamb, you won’t believe what you’ve been missing. Break out of your regular dinner rotation rut with something really flavorful and different. It’s on our dinner table when we cook for family and friends. We even served it at our wedding and our guests loved it. I know your family will too. 2023 lambs will be harvested in January. Please fill out our information form reserve yours. $100 deposit to reserve $8 a pound hanging weight hanging weight ranges from 40 to 65 pounds Processing by Potlatch Pack - we will send them your cutting instructions. Your questions answered “I don’t have a lot of room in my freezer” Lamb is perfect for you. Once they are fully processed, they take up about as much space as a paper grocery sack. So, it is not as big a commitment as something like half a cow. “I had lamb once and didn’t like it.” Icelandic lamb is different. It is very mild while still packing lots of flavor that always surprises people who expected not to like it. Turns out they love it. We even have a vegetarian friend who makes an exception for our lamb. “I don’t know how to prepare it” That’s fair! It’s different and if you treat it like beef you will be disappointed. We’ve got you covered. Your lamb will come with tips from us on how to handle it and a few of our favorite family recipes. “I only want half a lamb” Laws and regulations only allow us to sell you a whole animal. But, you can go in on one with a friend. Just provide us with everyone’s name and contact information and our processor will divide it up. Do you have another question or concern? Reach out and we’re happy to help. Reserve your lamb here Fiber Icelandic sheep produce amazing fleece, prized by spinners and fiber artists. We shear twice a year. Let us know if you would like to be part of the fun, or if you are interested in a fleece. Feel free to send a text to the phone number at the bottom of the page or send an email</image:caption>
